🌙 Tonight's story for Lily: Lily and the Seashell Dragon
Lily and the Seashell Dragon
At the quiet edge of the evening, when the sea was turning silver and the sand felt cool under toes, Lily walked beside Grandma Rose along the shore. The waves whispered, hush-a-hush, hush-a-hush, as if they were telling the beach it was nearly bedtime. Grandma Rose carried a little lantern with a golden glow, and Lily carried a bucket for treasures that did not mind being found.
Near a smooth blue rock, Lily spotted something shining. It was a shell, but not like any shell she had seen before. It was pearly and round, with tiny moon-coloured scales around its edge. As Lily picked it up, the shell gave a soft hum. Hmmmm, hummmm, gentle and low. Grandma Rose smiled. "Well now," she said quietly. "That sounds like a dragon shell."
Lily held it very carefully. "Does it belong to a dragon?" she asked. Before Grandma Rose could answer, a small sandy snout peeked from behind a drift of sea grass. Then two sleepy golden eyes blinked. A little sea dragon stepped out, no bigger than Grandma Rose's teapot, with wings like folded leaves and a tail curled in a neat loop. "I am Marlow," said the dragon in a shy voice. "I was taking my bedtime swim, and my moon shell rolled away."
Lily knelt down so she was close enough to hear him without anyone needing to shout. "We found it," she said. "But why is it humming?" Marlow gave a tiny sigh. "It sings me the way home. Without it, I keep walking in circles." He took three careful steps, then turned back to the same blue rock. Grandma Rose chuckled softly. "Circles can be cosy, but home is cosier."
Lily looked at the shell, then at the sea. The water was calm, and little lines of foam curled like lace. She noticed that the shell hummed more warmly when she pointed it towards a row of glowing pebbles near the tide. "This way," Lily whispered. "Softly, softly, home we go." Grandma Rose joined in under her breath. "Softly, softly, home we go."
Together they followed the glow along the shore. Lily walked slowly, so Marlow's tiny feet could keep up. The moon shell hummed, the waves hushed, and the lantern bobbed like a friendly star. Soon they reached a little arch in the rocks, with seaweed curtains swaying gently on each side. Inside was a cosy cave, lit by shells that shone like warm milk. A nest of smooth sea glass waited in the corner.
"My home," said Marlow, and his wings gave one happy flutter. Lily placed the moon shell beside the nest. At once it sang a soft lullaby, hmmmm, hummmm, round and low. Marlow curled up, tucked his tail under his chin, and smiled. "Thank you, Lily," he murmured. "You listened to the little sound." Grandma Rose squeezed Lily's hand. "That is a fine kind of magic."
The walk back was slow and dreamy. The beach seemed to breathe in and out with the sea. Lily's bucket was empty, but her heart felt full of moonlight and dragon-song. Grandma Rose carried the lantern, and Lily carried the memory of a tiny friend safe in his cosy cave.
At home, Lily snuggled down as the night settled softly around the windows. In her mind, the waves still whispered, hush-a-hush, hush-a-hush, and the moon shell still hummed its gentle tune. Somewhere by the seaside, Marlow was sleeping too, curled in silver light, while Lily's eyes grew heavy, soft, and warm.
Goodnight, Lily, sleep softly with seaside dreams and moonlit magic.
