Effective 21 July 2026

Story Nest is a parent- and carer-facing bedtime service operated in the United Kingdom by Signpost Digital Ltd, the controller responsible for the service. This notice explains what we collect, why we use it and the choices available to families. Contact us at [email protected].

Who the service is for

An adult must create and manage the account, child profiles, purchases and sharing. Children do not create public accounts or profiles, and Story Nest has no advertising, chat or public feed. A parent or carer chooses what profile information and story ideas to provide.

Information we use

  • Parent or carer details: name, email address, Apple sign-in identifier, account and household settings.
  • Child-profile details supplied by the adult: first name or nickname, pronouns, broad age band, favourite things, story style, recurring characters and subjects to avoid. We do not ask for a date of birth, address, school, photograph, precise location or a child’s contact details.
  • Story material: parent-entered daily moments, generated stories, favourites, reading progress, feedback and delivery preferences.
  • Subscription records: plan, product, Stripe or Apple transaction identifiers, status and expiry. We do not receive full card or Apple Account payment details.
  • Operational records: security sessions, generation and delivery status, errors and limited request logs needed to run and protect the service.
  • Product interaction records: account-linked, fixed-category events such as onboarding completed, paywall viewed and story marked read, plus a parent’s thumbs-up or thumbs-down. These records contain no child-profile text, story text, advertising identifier or persistent installation identifier.

If a family uses the app offline without Sign in with Apple, its profiles and library stay on that device. Data processed only on-device is not sent to Story Nest.

How we use information

We use it to provide personalised stories, apply parent safety preferences, deliver and save stories, synchronise a private family library when requested, measure whether core parent-facing features work, manage subscriptions, answer support requests, prevent abuse and meet legal obligations. We do not sell personal information, use it for targeted advertising or permit cross-app tracking.

AI and service providers

When live generation is used, the selected profile details and story idea are sent through our Cloudflare-hosted service to Anthropic’s Claude model to create the story. Cloudflare also provides hosting, databases, security and automated safety classification. Apple provides Sign in with Apple and in-app purchases; Stripe processes website payments; Resend delivers website emails. Each provider receives only the information needed for its role and acts under its own terms and our service arrangements.

The marketing website uses Cloudflare Web Analytics for aggregate site performance. The iOS app contains no advertising SDK and no third-party analytics SDK.

Legal basis and children’s privacy

We process account and story information to perform the service requested by the adult account holder, for legitimate interests such as security and service reliability, and where necessary to meet legal obligations. We design for high privacy by default and data minimisation. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child. If you believe a child submitted information without appropriate adult involvement, contact us so we can remove it.

Storage, transfers and retention

Online account information is stored with Cloudflare. Providers may process information in the United Kingdom, United States or other countries using appropriate contractual and legal safeguards. We keep information only while needed to provide the service, resolve security or billing matters and satisfy legal duties. Deleting an online family nest removes its profiles and saved stories from the active Story Nest account. Limited billing, fraud-prevention or legal records may be retained where the law requires it.

Your choices and rights

The app’s parent-gated Privacy & Data screen can export a readable copy and delete the online family nest and local device data. Website customers can use Manage my nest or contact us. Subscription cancellation is separate: Apple subscriptions are managed in App Store settings and website subscriptions through the Stripe customer portal.

Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to processing, or request portability. UK residents may complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office. We will verify that a requester is authorised to act for the family before releasing data.

Changes

We will update this page when our practices materially change and will give account holders an appropriate notice when required.
